In June, a one-legged Tiger Woods won the U.S. Open in a playoff over Rocco Mediate. Their score in regulation at Torrey Pines was 1-under par.

Last month at Royal Birkdale, Padraig Harrington defended his British Open title with a 3-over total that earned him a four-shot victory.

This week at Oakland Hills, even-280 would be a number that anyone in the field would take right now and go play hide-and-seek.

Chances are, they might never be found.

Then again, Andy North won the 1985 U.S. Open at this course in 1-under. Eleven years later, Steve Jones got it done in another Open here by finishing at 2-under.
