ATB Classic Tees Off Thursday Morning
Calgary, Alta. – The Canadian Tour is on the outskirts of Calgary this week for the ATB Financial Classic at the Cottonwood Golf Club.
Although several top players qualified for the Wayne Gretzky Classic event this week, the field here in Calgary is a strong one. Defending champion Mike Grob is at Cottonwood and is looking for his sixth Canadian Tour title. He says he always plays better when he lands on Canadian soil and his results prove it.
After struggling in Mexico at the start of the campaign, Grob put together a pair of top tens in British Columbia and is climbing the Order of Merit.
Also in the field are Calgary natives Dustin Risdon and Ryan Yip, both of whom should feel inspired playing in front of the home folks. Risdon won the TELUS Edmonton Open last summer and Ryan Yip regained his Canadian Tour card this winter in style by winning the Florida Q-School. Derek Gillespie, fresh off his course record 62 on Saturday in Vancouver, is also in the field. Other notables teeing it up include Brent Schwarzrock, Graham DeLaet, Brian Guetz, Brad Heaven and Spring Q-School winner Clint Rice.
The first round gets underway at 7:30 a.m., local time with 156 players in the field.
