Wes Heffernan gets a chance at the Canadian Open

Wes Heffernan is not a household name in Canada.

He's a very good golfer, though, and he's attracted the attention of some ardent golf fans since he's from Calgary and represented the country at a variety of international events, including last year's World Cup (teamed with Mike Weir).

Heffernan, 31, has earned $64,711 so far this season on the Canadian Professional Golf Tour, half of it from winning last week's Canadian Tour Players Cup in Winnipeg.

The money and the Manitoba win may be less important to Heffernan, though, than the side benefit that came with the victory: it qualified him for a spot in this week's RBC Canadian Open in Oakville, Ont.
