Defending champion Ochoa holds one-stroke lead at CN Canadian Women’s Open

The first round of the 2008 CN Canadian Women's Open is off to a dramatic start, as Rolex Rankings' number one and defending champion Lorena Ochoa (33-33=66, -6) birdied her final hole for a 6-under-par 66 and to take a one-stroke lead over world number two Annika Sorenstam (31-36=67, -5).

Playing in the afternoon wave, Ochoa put together a flawless, bogey-free round that included three birdies on both sides of the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club. Already a six-time LPGA Tour winner in 2008, Ochoa was playing catch-up with Sorenstam throughout much of her round before she matched the Swede's 5-under on the 15th hole with her fifth birdie of the day. A three-foot birdie putt on the final hole gave the future LPGA Tour and World Golf Halls of Fame member sole possession of the lead.
