Deraney wins Hooters event; NMB’s Parrish third
Joe Deraney of Thomasville, Ga., shot 5-under 67 on Thursday to win the NGA Hooters Tour Carolina Series 10th event at Black Bear Golf Club.
Deraney finished at 16-under 200, two strokes ahead of Blue Bell, Pa., resident Scott Ehrlich (67) and five strokes ahead of North Myrtle Beach resident Tony Parrish (69).
Amateur Christopher Marsh of Georgetown shot a 74 to finish tied for 12th (1-under 215).
The tournament was the first of six consecutive Carolina Series events to take place on the Grand Strand.

PINEHURST, N.C. | Coastal Carolina senior Zack Byrd of Calabash, N.C., won his second-round match but fell in the third round of the North & South Amateur Championship played at Pinehurst.
Byrd, the 50th seed, lost to second-seeded Jamie Lovermark of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., 2 and 1 in the third round. Byrd defeated Jimmy Lytle of Ocean Ridge, Fla., 3 and 2 in the second round.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. | Greer resident Hayley Stephens defeated high school teammate and Greer resident Vanessa Koechli 3 and 2 in the championship match to win the Carolinas Junior Girls' Championship at Southern Pines Golf Club.
