The payout odds on this type of bet are usually really nice though and you might only need to win 1 bet out of every 4 to stay profitable throughout the golfing season.
The match-up bet will require that you know a little bit about golf, but it’s also more profitable then the above bet. Most online sportbooks will have two golfers in each match-up bet and you simply need to decide what golfer will win the round. These types of bets are held over the course of a single round of golf and not the entire tournament. Finding value in this type of bet is the most important thing. I try to avoid the best golfer match-ups because you’re basically flipping a coin. As you move down the list of match-up bets you’ll find many middle of the pack golfers matched up against each other, which tend to be more profitable.
When selecting match-up bets you should wait until the second round generally. This will allow you to watch the first round of action and see how each of the golfers are performing. Once you’ve watched the first round you’ll have a good idea about which golfers are at the course to play that weekend and which golfers that aren’t. Most of the time match-up bets will feature two golfers that are really close on the leaderboard, so it’s difficult to decide what golfer has the advantage until you watch them.
If you only follow golf casually and you prefer betting on the top golfers rather then using any strategy by looking in the middle of the pack, you should wait until the major events each year. The best golfers always come out to play for the major events and you won’t need to worry about them not giving it 100%. In smaller golf tournaments some of the best golfers will struggle simply because they don’t care as much about winning those events as they do the major events.
