Miller has a grand slam for comments made by Woods
Tiger Woods doesn't get knocked often in the golf media, but NBC's Johnny Miller launched a couple of shots off the tee yesterday.
With his usual candour and edge, Miller said Woods made a mistake and was perhaps presumptuous to speculate in January that winning golf's Grand Slam was "easily within reach."
The 17th at Sawgrass holds a solid place in golf lore
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- The only thing that sank faster than his golf ball was his heart. From exhilaration to embarrassment, from contention to consolation, Sean O'Hair endured the vagaries of the game's most famous island green.
"I got kicked in the ass on 17," O'Hair said after knocking not one, but two, balls in the water that surrounds the famous par-3 17th at the TPC Sawgrass, home to this week's Players Championship.

Cuba embraces golf to boost tourism
HAVANA (Reuters) - The only time Cuba's Fidel Castro is known to have played golf in 1961, in a stunt thumbing his nose at the United States.
Now that Fidel has handed over power to his brother, Raul, Communist Cuba is setting aside any ideological objections and is embracing golf, the most capitalist of sports.
Investors from Canada and Europe have proposed building gated communities with luxury hotels, villas and condos surrounding 18 and 36-hole golf courses near beach resorts across the Caribbean island.

Adam Scott eyes No.2 world golf ranking
Adam Scott believes golf's world No.2 ranking is within his grasp in the next year if he keeps playing at the level he is capable.
"Sure, I think I'm on the right track," said Scott at the Players Championship where he's part of a 15-strong Australian contingent at the Sawgrass TPC.
The current ranking has Tiger Woods a runaway No.1 with 21.31 points, followed by fellow American Phil Mickelson a distant second with 9.75 points, and Scott at No.3 on 6.05 points.
Lehmans, golf world lend help to center
As Brenda Combs detailed the painful, horrific and wretched life she had lived, literally on the streets of Phoenix, Tom and Melissa Lehman sat in front of her, their eyes transfixed, the lumps growing in their throats.
The Lehmans are honorary co-chairs of the Changing Lives Center project of the Phoenix Rescue Mission, which recently had a groundbreaking ceremony on 15th Avenue, just north of Van Buren Street.
Mickelson may be No. 2 even without Tiger Woods in the TPC
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - No. 2 might still be No. 2 even without Tiger Woods in the field.
Phil Mickelson is the logical prediction for a favorite of Thursday’s Players Championship, considering his pedigree, 33 career PGA Tour wins and his 2007 Players title.
So who’s your favorite, Boo Weekley? Lefty, right?
"I think Vijay (Singh) and Trevor Immelman are the favorites," Weekley said. "Vijay’s got the perfect cut for this course. Trevor should control the ball well out here."
Certainly Brandt Snedeker would pick Mickelson. And he did - right before listing off three other players who could also be considered favorites.
