Padraig Harrington out dueled Sergio Garcia and Ben Curtis to secure his second straight major golf tournament, becoming the first European to win the PGA Championship in 78 years.

Ireland's Harrington, who successfully defended his British Open title three weeks ago, finished at 3-under par at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. Garcia and Curtis finished at 1-under par.

Harrington becomes the first golfer to win the British Open and PGA Championship in the same year since 2006, when Tiger Woods repeated the feat he achieved in 2000. Nick Price (1994) and Walter Hagen (1924) are the only other golfers to win both majors in the same year. Harrington is the first European to win the PGA Championship since Scottish-born Tommy Armour in 1930.
