Hjorth one clear in Tuscany
Swedish Solheim Cup star Maria Hjorth posted a seven-under-par 64 to take a one shot lead after the first round of the BMW Ladies Italian Open.
Hjorth posted eight birdies and one bogey on a hot day at Argentario Golf Resort in Tuscany to lead over European number one Gwladys Nocera from France and Germany’s Martina Eberl, both on 65. Welsh ace Becky Brewerton was a shot back in fourth place with the Spanish duo of Carmen Alonso and Paula Marti in a share of fifth.
Hjorth, who was joint seventh in last week’s AIB Ladies Irish Open, supported by Failte Ireland, is one of the longest and most powerful hitters in women’s golf and used her length to her advantage in the Tuscan countryside.
