Jeld-Wen Tradition Course playing longer, but putts vital

Mark McNulty was eating lunch with Ben Crenshaw and Loren Roberts on Tuesday.

The topic of putting came up -- they are, after all, considered three of the best putters in golf history.

"Ben says, 'You two guys are the best putters I've ever seen,' " McNulty recounted. "And I said, 'No, no, no, you two guys are the best putters I've ever seen.' Loren said, 'No, no, you've got it wrong, YOU two guys are the best putters I've ever seen.' It was quite funny."

A Champions Tour golfer might not need to be the best putter anyone has ever seen to win the Jeld-Wen Tradition, the year's fourth major, which starts today at Sunriver's Crosswater Club. But he'll have to be pretty good. And if he's great on the greens, he might duplicate McNulty's feat last year.
