Leaders made turn in PGA’s third round
A player with some experience in stealing a major championship on the final day had a share of the lead early in Sunday's marathon 36-hole finish at the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills.
Ben Curtis, a surprise winner of the 2003 British Open, was at 2 under through his first nine holes of the rain-delayed third round and shared the lead with J.B. Holmes. Holmes, the only player under after two rounds at 1-under 139, was also at 2 under through nine holes.
Most of the field had to return to Oakland Hills on Sunday morning to complete the third round — and the top three twosomes never even got a chance to tee off on Saturday before rain, lightning and thunder created ponds where there never were ponds at the old Donald Ross layout.
