Peoria Ridge offers different challenge for Open qualifiers
One week ago Andrew Dresser, Chris Devlin and Joey Lamielle were in San Diego, competing in the U.S. Open for the first time.
Dresser made the 36-hole cut on the number (149) and finished at 17-over-par 300, good for a share of 71st place and $15,189. Lamielle and Devlin shot 155 and 167, respectively, and missed the cut.
The trio is in the same tournament again this week, and while the magnitude isn’t the same, the NGA Hooters Pro Golf Tour’s Buffalo Run Casino Classic is important to them.
“No, this is going to be a nice win for me,” said Lamielle, who fired a 9-under-par 63 on Thursday and trails first-round leader Jeff Corr by one shot. “You treat every tournament pretty much the same. This golf course definitely looks wide open compared to last week. I’ve been practicing well, playing well and feeling good.
“It is a different feeling,” said Lamielle, from Sarasota, Fla. “Each level you progress to is comparatively different. Next year I plan definitely playing on the PGA Tour, not here.”
