PRAYAD EYES VICTORY AT SINGHA THAI PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
Chiang Rai, Thailand, June 25: Thai star Prayad Marksaeng, who will bid for a third victory in a month this week, has attributed his spectacular form to meditation and a putting tip from his young sons.
The home hero headlines the Singha Thailand PGA Championship presented by Sports Authority of Thailand on Thursday and is strongly tipped to triumph in the US$300,000 Asian Tour event.
Prayad won successive events in Japan and sprinkled a seventh and third place finish in his previous two Asian Tour starts. A return to the Santiburi Country Club Chiang Rai, a venue he calls ‘home’ following three wins here, has him oozing with confidence.
“I’ve won on this course previously, including once in March and I feel confident,” said Prayad today. “It’s like my home course. I like the greens, I know how they break and the conditions suit my game. So it’s an advantage for me.”
Prayad likes the tough set-up at the Robert Trent Jones Jr-designed Santiburi course where its penal rough and smallish greens reward accuracy and consistency. “The two events that I won in Japan were played on tight courses. I’m hitting the ball straight which is my strength and my putting has been good,” said the 41-year-old.
